The Chief political commissar of Police, Asan Kasingye has defended Police in the way it handled the Wednesday riots which broke out after the arrest of Bobi Wine.
During the Wednesday riots, several people were injured, others killed as civilians ran battles with police.
While appearing in an interview on NBS morning breeze today, Kasingye defended Police saying that although it’s the Police’s duty to protect civilians, Police also has to protect themselves during riots of such violent nature.
“Our job is to protect the people. But we also have to protect ourselves.” he said.
He however regretted the death of innocent people and added that Police will soon come up with an overall statement on the riots.
“The Police will come out with an overall statement of what happened. Enanga has been speaking. We regret the death of the people. No one leaves office to go and kill People. What happened is regrettable.” he said.
