Uganda Cranes Coach McKinstry Delighted with Team’s Performance Against Host Cameroon in Pre-CHAN tie

The Uganda Cranes head coach Johnny McKinstry was happy with the Cranes performance against the hosts, Cameroon in the Pre-CHAN tournament match played on yesterday evening in Ahmadou Ahidjo Multipurpose Stadium

The Cranes, who played most of the game 10 men after Ben Ocen was given red card in the 12th minute drew 1-all with host Cameroon at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Multipurpose Stadium in Yaounde.

Banga Bienvenue put Cameroon in the lead before Milton Karisa scored for Uganda cranes to level the game in the 77th minute (Uganda cranes 1:Cameroon 1).

“The red card given to Ben Ocen in the first half amazed me,” McKinstry told FUFA Media before adding;

“I told my players at halftime that we wanted to come here and prepare for the tournament, and what an opportunity we have been given to play against the host nation a man down for 90-85% of the game and most teams when they get into that situation, they get men behind the ball and play direct football.”

“But for us, we encourage players to keep playing and be confident and you know what for the large portion of the game, we were the side creating chances from open play,” he asserted.

“We couldn’t be more pleased with the players although there is still some stuff to improve on naturally so this match was great for the fitness and the tactical development of the players so am really pleased.”

McKinstry’s side will return to action on Monday, January 4th against Zambia before facing Niger three days later.
