Striker Oscar Mawa scored thrice as Uganda Cubs silenced rivals Kenya in the CECAFA U17 Championship at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu, Rwanda.
Travis Mutyaba and Ronald Madoi added a goal each to add on Mawa’s hat-trick as Uganda issued a statement in their opening game.
Mawa, a KCCA FC Junior Team forward, got Uganda out of the blocks when he went at the end of Vincent Mulema’s slightly deflected cross to nod in at near post in the seventh minute.
Mawa got his hat-trick four minutes later: He ran behind the Kenya defence after a low ball from Mutyaba before unleashing his shot that slid past a helpless Kenya Keeper to garner wild celebrations.
Mutyaba got his first, fourth for Uganda, when he capitalised on Kenya’s recklessness at the back before he exploded forward to slot home.
Madoi put the icing on the cake when he calmly controlled inside the area from Enock Luyima corner before taping home.
