The Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Rebecca Alitwala was not in presence at the opening ceremony of ruling party National Resistance Movement (NRM) retreat for party’s newly elected MPs at the National leadership institute in Kyankwanzi yesterday as her rival deputy speaker Jacob Oulanya made it through.
The 3 weeks retreat was officially opened up by the NRM party chairperson President Yoweri Museveni ,who was welcomed up by NRM Mps at retreat.
However Kadaga was not available for the opening ceremony and according to the party secretary General ,Justine Kasule Lumumba and Deputy secretary General Richard Todwong ,said that kadaga had sent apologies for being absent but recognised presence of Oulanya.
“Allow me recognise the absentia members of central executive committee (CEC) who are yet to join .They have sent apologies that they can’t be here with us but will come”, Lubumba informed party Chairman .
Earlier ,the party director of communication Mr Emmanuel Domba had indicated that both speaker and her deputy would not attend the retreat for newly elected NRM MPs because of the parliamentary business they have to attend but her deputy managed to attend.
It is reported that prime Minister Rugunda and party chairperson president Museveni did not refer to Oulanya in their presentations.The opening ceremony ended without deputy speaker being called into even just greet the elected MPs.
