Security around Kampala, Mukono, Wakiso and all over the country has been tightened as UPDF joins the Uganda Police in readiness for any more riots that may break out.
This development followed the Wednesday riots that saw over 30 civilians dead and several injured after Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) was arrested.
While addressing journalists last Friday, UPDF spokesperson, Lt. Col.Deo Akiiki explained that all roads leading into the capital shall be manned jointly with the Police. Highways shall also be monitored to provide security and ensure no groups interfere with the normal flow of traffic and business.
“All our deployments across the country are on a pre-emptive posture to disable and dismantle any criminal minded cell and act decisively to ensure security.” he said.
Akiiki added that effective Thursday night last week, deployments were made to protect infrastructure such ass power stations and warned the public against going close to such establishments.
“Elections will come and go, but Uganda will remain. No amount of pressure or influence, whether internal or external should divert us from protecting our motherland.” he concluded
