Police Warns Musicians and Comedians Planning to Stage Demonstration at National Theatre


Deputy PRO Kampala Metropolitan area Asp Luke Owoyesigyire has sent serious warning to promoters, artists, comedians and musicians who are planning to participate in demonstration tomorrow at national theater.

It should be remembered entrainment gatherings were prohibited by the government as one way of curbing COVID-19 but artists, comedians agues to the government to also be looked through and also be provided with stimulates funds like other sectors because they also deserve equal treatment to government since they have nowhere to earn a living.

Asp Luke Owoyesigyire said that although demonstrations are human rights, but organizers must follow required of lawful before demonstrations and if they fall police will deploy strategically in order to stop them from unlawful act.

Official Statement release by Deputy PRO KMP read as:

The territorial police of Kampala Metropolitan Area has noted with concern messages on social media and distributed leaflets urging the general public especially promoters ,artistes ,comedians and musicians ,to participate in demonstration tomorrow (March 31) at the national  theater in Kampala city.

Although demonstrations are human right,organizers must follow required of lawful processes before demonstrations.

Currently ,gatherings that are likely to lead to the spread of COID-19 virus are prohibited in accordance to ministry of Health  guidelines.

Police will enforce the guidelines to the letter.

We advise the organizers to desist in engaging in unlawful demonstrations.

The police will deploy Strategically in order to stop any unlawful  act from taking place.

We call upon the organizers of these demonstrations to opt for other lawful ways of passing on their  grievances with out disrupting the day to day running of business in Kampala city which is currently peaceful
