The Ministry of Works and Transport has suspended the operations of Link buses for two weeks to investigate the increasing road carnage involving their own buses shortly after Kabarole nasty accident that claimed 20 lives.
The incident happened near Fort Portal City along the Kampala- Kasese Highway when a Link bus veered off the road leaving 20 people dead and other nursing injuries.
According to Ecweru Musa Francis, the state minister for works and transport, they are concerned about the frequency of accidents on the roads and the number of lives lost on well-paved roads.
We will conduct an investigation to ascertain whether it is regulation which isnt adequate or is it enforcement or is it sensitization that is lacking, said Ecweru.
He added that they have been suspended Link busses for mechanical examination to ensure that they are safe to be on the road and they will have discussions with bus company managers to have them appreciate that they have an obligation to safeguard the lives of their passengers.
