National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi together with other party’ s top heads have refused to hand over leadership positions to Moses Kibalama Nkonge and his group who ousted them.
On Friday last week after a delegates conference Kyagulanyi also known as Bobi Wine and his Kamwokya- based group were reportedly fired from their positions after failing to offer leadership and for flouting terms of a memorandum of understanding under which the People Power pressure group acquired NUP.
The conference held on Friday morning at Jevine Hotel in Lubaga division saw Mr David Lewis Rubongoya being replaced with Mr. Simbwa Kagombe as the Secretary General of the Party.
Others appointed included Gideon Tugume as Secretary for information/ Spokesperson replacing Nakawa West MP Joel Ssenyonyi while Jimmy Ssasi Waiga has been elected as treasurer.
Mr Kyagulanyi has been appointed as the Partys Secretary for Foreign Affairs.
The Kamwokya group has urged its supporters to ignore Kibalama and to treat all his announcements and all diversionary attempts with contempt.
Bobi Wine and his team have distanced themselves from Kibalamas delegates conference, making it clear that there has been no Delegates Conference of the Party in the recent past.
According to them, the NUP Constitution requires them to convene a Delegates Conference at least once every five years to elect leaders, and that once elected, those leaders hold office for five years.
