KCCA FC Knocked out of CAF Confederation Cup

Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) have been  knocked out of the CAF Confederation Cup at the second round of the competition after a 3-3 aggregate draw with Rwandan Giants AS Kigali.

Coach Mike Mutebi boys defeated Rwanda’s AS Kigali 3-1 in the second leg game of the CAF Confederation Cup first round second leg game played at St Mary’s stadium, Kitende, but were eliminated on away goals rule after conceding a goal that could see them level on aggregate score over the two legs.



Having lost the first leg 2-0 without even Kicking the ball, KCCA FC got the perfect start they wished for as Brian Aheebwa capitalized on a moment of awful defending by the As Kigali back-line to place the ball into the bottom right corner to give coach Mike Mutebi Boys a lead in the second minute of the game.



The visitors, tried fighting back and eventually got a chance to level matters through Tshabalala but KCCA goalkeeper Charles Lukwago was well placed to save the ball with ease.

Tshabalala was at it again in the 10th minute but this time, sending a powerful shot that indeed got Lukwago troubled despite punching it away to deny the visitors from levelling matters.


AS Kigali continued to mount a lot of pressure on KCCA FC’s defense and it almost paid off in the 22nd minute only for the KCCA custodian to brilliantly punch the ball away for the corner kick.


Aheebwa doubled the Kasasiro Boys lead in the 39th minutes after a superb flick from Bright Anukani found him in the box to finish off the move.


With the scores 2-0 to the hosts, KCCA FC, AS Kigali head coach Eric Nshimiyimana took off Tumaini Ntamuhanga for Orotomal Alex trying to get an away goal before the break.

The game went into halftime break with the hosts holding a 2-0 lead over As Kagali.

At the beginning of second half, Mike Mutebi brought on Steven Sserwada and Sadat Anaku for Sam Ssenyonjo and Kafumbe respectively.

In the 49th minute, Kigali got an away goal they wanted when defender Musa Ramathan fouled Aboubakar Lawal in the forbidden area.

Muhadjiri Hakizimana stepped up and struck the ball into the right bottom corner sending Lukwago the wrong way.

moments later, summer signing Aheebwa gave KCCA FC another ray of hope in the 76th minute, completing his hat-trick after Ashraf Mugume’s through ball successfully inched into the talisman’s path. He stretched and looped the ball over Batte for an empty net.

KCCA FC tried their level best to get the fourth of the game and a goal which could grant their progression into the next round but Batte was brilliant, denying both Aheebwa and Anaku on multiple occasions.
