The accounts were hacked and deleted by unknown people.
However, blogger Ashburg Kato, alleged that the California based tech giants had deleted their accounts pursuant to a request by opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) party presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.
“Facebook itself deleted our accounts on the request of Bobi Wine’s handlers, we request President Kaguta Museveni to shut down the entire Facebook in Uganda,” Kato said.
It should be noted that just recently the Ugandan government through the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) wrote to US-based Google Inc and requested them to block up-to 14 online channels that were linked to NUP party headed by Bobi Wine.
UCC alleged that the channels, which include Ghetto TV are misleading and misrepresent whatever the country is going through. They also breach the law since they’re not registered.
Howevert, in an e-mail response, Google, through It’s head of communication and Public affairs for Afrca, Dorothy Ooko declined, explaining that a mere Government request is insufficient for it to act.
“It is very hard to just have a channel removed due to a government request. We always follow local law, but it would have to be a valid court order. The letters just show what the UCC submitted to the Embassy; they are not court orders,” she explained.
