Electoral Commission Applauds Police For Handling Bobi Wine Riots

The Election Commission, chaired by Justice Byabakama has commended Uganda Police for successfully quelling the free Bobi Wine protests and urged it to better enforce the COVID-19 guidelines during the campaign season.

While addressing the media fraternity yesterday, Mr. Paul Bukenya, the EC spokesperson insisted that it’s the duty of Police to ensure law and order and enforcing the EC guidelines issued to Presidential candidates.

“It is the duty of Uganda police to ensure law and order during the electoral process in enforcing guidelines we issued as Electoral Commission. This is why there has been interception of groups, candidates that have flouted the rules,”  he said.

Police on Wednesday arrested Kyagulanyi Ssentamu for flouting EC guidelines. This how’ve sparked off riots that saw over 50 dead. FDC’s Patrick Amuriat was also arrested but later released.
