Following Parallel NUP offices in Kabowa which were opened by Moses Nkonge Kibalama and Ssimbwa Paul Kagombe yesterday, the Electoral Commission has dismissed Moses Kibalama Nkonge’s party faction and released the legitimate list of NUP party executive members.

In a letter from the EC addressed to Moses Nkonge Kibalama and Ssimbwa Paul Kagombe, the Commission confirmed that the NUP party is under the leadership of Hon. Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine.

According to the Electoral Commission, yesterday it received a letter informing the Commission of changes within the leadership of NUP.

The EC spokesperson Paul Bukenya, confirmed that the Commission received a letter from one Paul Ssimbwa Kagombe the co-founders of the party that eventually evolved into NUP.

The Commission will consider the contents of the letter in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, the provisions of the Political Party and Organisations Act, the Constitution of the Party (NUP), and based on our official records about the Party. Bukenya said.

We will officially respond to the above letter in due course, he added.

According to Bukenya, they issued the certificate of registration to NUP in August 2019, when the party was registered.

As you are aware, NUP Party is a dully registered political party, he said.

He further explained that anyone can write to a public institution like the Electoral Commission about a public institution or even a political party like NUP.

That is why we then only consider your communication in accordance with the laws and regulations I have highlighted above and then reply to your letter, and guide you, he said.

Bukenyas comments come after Kibalamas NUP faction opened up parallel headquarters in Kabowa earlier today.

The group displayed the NUP Certificate of Registration and challenged Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, to join the officially registered party.
