Kampala – Court of Appeal has today morning announced National Unity Platform ‘s Joyce Bagala as the Validly Elected Woman Member of Parliament for Mityana District After overturning the high Court judgement that had nullified her victory challenged by National Resistance Movement’s Judith Nabakooba.
Hon Bagala of the National Unity Platform (NUP) had won the January election, unseating Mrs Nabakooba with 64,633 votes against 48,322.
The Minister of Lands however, rushed to court challenging the election results.
While she said she had trust in the Electoral Commission, she said she didn’t concur or have trust in the results in which Bagala was declared winner.
“Some of my agents were intimidated and when it was brought to my attention, I reported to the Police Commander in the region but I was not helped,” she said.
The Mityana court granted Nabakooba’s petition and ordered for another election to be conducted.
Justice Emmanuel Baguma in his ruling said he found “enough evidence in this petition to prove that Mrs Bagala through her Agents, with her knowledge and consent or approval committed the electoral offence of bribery.”
But Bagala through her lawyers of Lukwago and Co Advocates quickly rushed to the Court of Appeal to challenge the ruling.
