CAF Cancels AFCON U17 2021 Tournament due to Take Place in Morocco

The emergency committee of the confederation of African football over yesterday announced the cancellation of AFCON U-17 2021 tournament that was slated for this month in Morocco.

The decision was reached on yesterday after an emergency meeting held in Rabat, Morocco studied the present COVID-19 situation in the North Africa nation and opted to cancel the tournament with immediate effect.

The tournament joins series of international sports events that have been cancelled since the outbreak of the corona virus pandemic.

Before the decision was made, 5 out of 12 participating countries were already in Morocco.

Zambia, Uganda, Senegal, Ivory Coast have been forced to return home hoping to be reimbursed for the expenses made so far. The next edition is scheduled for April 2023,the best four nations from that tournament will represent Africa at the 2023 FIFA world cup in Peru
