Ugandan pop star and opposition leader, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine Keeps on winning with his latest award coming in from Hamptons International Film Festival.
His documentary Film ” The People’s president in which he featured scooped award for the best Audience 2022 at the 30th Hamptons International Film Festival.
The People’s President documentary is set to be released officially in theaters next year and it was distributed by National Geographic Documentary Films
It chronicles the story of Bobi Wine, the musician-turned-politician leading the opposition to end the 35-year regime in Uganda using his music.
The film was premiered in Venice, Italy at the Venice Film Festival.
It was directed by Moses Bwayo and Christopher Sharp and produced by double Oscar winner John Battsek.
Speaking about this film, Bobi Wine said that “My people, the Ugandan people, are familiar with my journey through music, politics, imprisonment and torture, but this film is a microcosm of my country’s larger struggles under an unrelenting dictatorship that has been operating with impunity for decades. I can’t wait for global audiences to see the reality of the situation and question their leaders’ support for this regime.”
The singer took to his social media platforms to express his elation on winning the award.
“Even before the official release of our Documentary Film ,this is what’s up ,” he captioned the artwork as he shared the good news.
