Bobi Wine Speaks Out on Omah Lay, Tems Arrest

Popular Ugandan singer turned politician, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, alias Bobi Wine, has reacted to the  arrest of Nigerian singers, Omah Lay and Tems

In a recent tweet post, the pop star and presidential candidate for NUP said the singers arrest was a shameful act by a ‘regime that operates on double standards.”

“Truth is #OmahLay‘s arrest isn’t about COVID. No! It’s an act of shame by a corrupt regime that operates on double standards. He obtained a work permit & performed under police protection! Why arrest him? This as pro-Museveni artists stage street concerts unmolested! #FreeOmahLay,” he said on Twitter.

The Nigerian artist who came to the limelight this year after releasing his critically acclaimed EP, Get Layd, was arrested alongside his fellow Nigerian singer, Tems.

They were subsequently charged to court for violating COVID-19 protocols.

Widespread outrage has, however, followed the arrest with many Nigerians and Ugandans pouring out their frustrations on the Ugandan government.
